The 5th Edition of “Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Legal Seminar ”
With the theme “Theory and Practice of Legal Aid System”, the 5th edition of “Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Legal Seminar ” organized by China Law Society, Hong Kong Legal Forum and Macao Legal Affairs Bureau was held in Macao on September 27, 2013. More than 80 legal professions and scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan participated in the Seminar. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of LiaoNing Department Law Institution, Chen Suzhi, the Director of International Liaison Department of China Law Society, Gu Zhaomin, the Director of Macao Legal Affairs Bureau, Cheong Weng Chon and the Convener of Hong Kong Legal Forum, Andrew Liao Cheung Sing.
The legal professions and scholars shared the theory and practice of legal aid system of different places at the seminar, including Deputy Director of China Legal Aid Centre, Zheng Ziwen (Topic: Development and Enhancement of China Legal Aid System), Deputy Director if Hong Kong Legal Aid Department, Chris Chong Yang Tung (Topic: The Role of Government in Hong Kong Legal Aid System), Member of Macao Legal Aid Commission, Paulino Comandante (Topic: Macao Legal Aid System), Director of The Institute of Finance and Economic Law of Taiwan Feng Chia University, Ling Chunhung (Topic: A Study of Taiwan Legal Aid System), Professor of the Faculty of Law of ShenYang Normal University, Bao Yuqiu (Topic: The Current Situation of the Legal Aid Work in Liaoning and some suggestions for Improvement), the president of Hong Kong Legal Aid Services Council, JP Eric Li Ka Cheong (Topic: Legal Aid System of Hong Kong SAR), Professor of the Faculty of Law of East China University of Political Science and Law, Chengang (Topic: Trends in Access to Justice and the New Vision of Legal Aid) and the previous Deputy Law Officer of Hong Kong SAR (Civil Law), Anthony Wu (Topic: Discussion on some Issues of the Practical Operation of Hong Kong Legal Aid).
Director of Macao Legal Affairs Bureau, Cheong Weng Chon revealed that the seminar helped to strengthen and facilitate the communication and co-operation among the jurisprudential circle and legal circle of the four regions across the strait, and provided a high level platform for legal occupations of the four regions to communication and exchange experiences in the legal system.
